En 1996, la premi\u00e8re ferme perli\u00e8re moderne (marine) du continent am\u00e9ricain a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9e au Mexique<\/a> sous la marque \u00ab\u00a0Perlas del Mar de Cortez\u00a0\u00bb. Appartenant \u00e0 une coop\u00e9rative, elle utilise des techniques d\u00e9velopp\u00e9es localement et a instaur\u00e9 des protocoles environnementaux, sociaux et de qualit\u00e9. <\/p>

Pendant environ quatre si\u00e8cles, les perles mexicaines ont domin\u00e9es le march\u00e9 mondial et ont \u00e9t\u00e9 la source la plus importante de perles du Nouveau Monde. Cette situation a \u00e9galement entra\u00een\u00e9 une grave surp\u00eache des hu\u00eetres sauvages et l’\u00e9puisement de nombreux bancs d’hu\u00eetres dans la r\u00e9gion. D\u00e8s 1939, le gouvernement f\u00e9d\u00e9ral mexicain a interdit la p\u00eache des hu\u00eetres perli\u00e8res afin de sauver les quelques bancs de perles restants d’une destruction compl\u00e8te<\/a>. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tUne ferme perli\u00e8re fond\u00e9e sur des principes \u00e9cologiques solides constitue un outil unique pour favoriser le r\u00e9tablissement des bancs de perles \u00e9puis\u00e9s. Les bivalves sexuellement matures peuvent produire de grandes quantit\u00e9s de gam\u00e8tes (2 \u00e0 60 millions d\u2019\u0153ufs par femelle), et, plac\u00e9s dans une ferme, contribuer \u00e0 la lente reconstitution de l\u2019esp\u00e8ce. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Since the beginning of the pearl culture operations in Guaymas, a steep increase in the production of pearl oyster spat has been recorded: with the average number of juvenile pearl oyster per collector bag increasing from only 30 individuals per bag in 1993 to 900 individuals per bag in the year 2000 and now up to 8,000 spats per bag in 2010. Significant increases in wild oyster populations around the farm have been observed; these are likely linked to the pearl farm's activities. Another positive impact on the local ecology stems from the use of culture structures and cages, which act as a temporary artificial reef. When the experimental pearl farm was constructed in 1991, the number and variety of reef fishes was equal to the area\u2019s average. Since that time there has been a large increase in both the number and variety of marine life found in the area.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n \t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
